Atlanta United had a warm welcome for the 2021 Season from the 17s Saturday night.
The 5-Stripes arrived to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for their home opener versus Chicago Fire. It was the first match at home for not only 2021, but many new players and new head coach Gabriel Heinze.
The 17s were rowdy and proud the entire night especially after Ezequiel Barco’s banger to open up the night off a penalty shot outside of the 18’. The goal even landed ESPN’s Top Play of Saturday night.
Chicago found the back of the net in the beginning of the second half. Soon after, the 5-Stripes took the lead back from the Fire.
The squad didn’t stop there. In the 85th minute, the team came together for the last goal of the evening. Jake Mulraney set up Emerson Hyndman for the finish.
Atlanta United had a perfect ending to the night with a 3-1 victory.
