“Sanjay came out and loved the open space that was not being used by the community. “ Wiley shared. “The property is owned partly by OZ Pizza, Joel Baskin and the City of East Point.” Sanjay loved that the area is located in the downtown area. From that point, it was a two year process to to add the pitch."
Two years later, they finally opened the pitch. Before COVID-19 hit, they had people playing everyday on the pitch from all ages. For matches, they play 7 minute halves, 5v5. The winning team stays on the field for two matches and after that they get off to continue the rotation. Wiley even brings his two sons out to play with him for some family bonding.
“It’s been a great thing in the community, nothing but a plus,” Wiley said with a smile. “It’s been good.”
Since COVID-19 occurred, they haven't been able to play those matches or serve the community like normal whether it’s fundraising nights where they give 15-percent from the orders of that evening back to a group or giving to the local communities.
“We are really big about community,” Wiley explained. “We've been offering weekly fundraiser nights for 12 years. We have given over 45,000 dollars to our local area communities. During COVID-19, we have not been allowed to offer our fundraisers. We were looking for ways to give back.”
