In a moment of true vulnerability, Neha Patel made a bet with her husband, and by extension, with her faith.
The trials of life as a mother, working a job and still finding time to express herself artistically put Neha in a position where she felt like she needed a sign.
She called on her Hindu faith and one deity, known as Bhagavan, in particular. She called on Krishna.
“I told [my husband], ‘If Bhagavan is real, I will find a fabric that is the exact Hare Krishna yellow. The yellow has to be the Hare Krishna because that would be like from him,’” Neha said. “‘It has to come in my life some way or the other.’”
Just two days went by, and Neha received an email from Atlanta United’s creative team. She had been recommended by Sanithna Phansavanh, the club’s 2025 Asian American and Pacific Islander Scarf designer, to design the 2026 edition.
“They sent me a PDF of previous people, so I see that person's name on it that recommended me. I click on it, the guy that recommended me is wearing the exact Hare Krishna yellow,” Neha said. “I'm like, ‘You want a scarf from me?’ Like, okay, what kind of scarf? They pull up a painting that they think I should go direction wise. And is a freaking Krishna.”
Her faith was fulfilled right in front of her eyes, inviting her to tell her story to an audience she never had before. As a member of Atlanta United’s 2026 Art Collective and the designer of the 2026 AAPI Scarf, Neha chose to platform aspects of her life that define her: her belief, her culture, her motherhood.
“I don't know why I'm here,” Neha said with her signature humble and comedic demeanor. “God brought this to me, so I better do a good job at it.”
