“It is an honor to represent Atlanta, where I was raised”
Not only is George a key piece for the ATL UTD Academy U-16 team, but he is also a starter for the U.S. U-15 Boy’s National Team which recently won the Torneo Delle Nazioni in Italy. George believes that he is where he is today because of his hard work and the countless hours that his coaches have put into his development, especially during his time with the Atlanta United Academy.
“Our academy is really unique”
Atlanta United is the first team in MLS history to have started their academy before the professional team competed in a match. The club prides itself on its youth development and growing the game not only in the Southeast, but in the world.
During every session ATL UTD Academy players face high caliber competition under the guidance of world class coaches. These players are also given the rare opportunity to share the same training facilities as the first team.
“The training ground is beautiful and it’s a blessing to be honest. Not that many people get to come here and enjoy all of this.”
Some, like George, are fortunate enough to be called into first team training by head coach Tata Martino. Grateful for the opportunity, George explains that it offers him a chance to experience the tempo and speed of play at the highest level. He admires first team defender Greg Garza, so the ability to train alongside his idol provides a major stepping stone in his dream to play professional soccer.
