Shaped in the heart of Eastside, upcoming hip-hop group Two-9 lives, eats, and sleeps Atlanta and to no surprise, attended the first-ever match for their hometown club, Atlanta United.

The group itself is a combination of a few separate groups and individual artists, who collaborated together to form Two-9 in 2009, writing plenty of singles over the last few years.

Its members include Ceej, Jace, Curtis Williams, DJ Osh Kosh, Light Skin Mac 11, and DavE. Ironically enough, 2017 is not only a monumental year for Atlanta United, but for Two-9 as well as they officially released their debut album in February.

Regardless of the origin of each member, native or not, the city means everything to Two-9.

“I didn’t grow up here, and I’m not from here, but Atlanta has shaped me and it’s shaped my music,” said Curtis Williams. “How we compose our music is how we live our lives in Atlanta.”

So when given the opportunity to attend the inaugural match of their city’s soccer club, there was no hesitation.

A few members of the group played some soccer recreationally when they were younger but their main tie to the game is Ceej, who’s father is from England. “I’ve been playing soccer since I was baby,” said Ceej. From very early childhood, he was raised surrounded by soccer, its culture and its power to bring people together.

Not only at the match as simply spectators, the group also fully embraced the traditions and engaged in the historic experience, signing the club’s Golden Spike and even jumping into the Supporters march to the stadium. It wasn’t about witnessing an event, for Two-9, it was about living it.

The moment from the experience that they say will forever remain with them is when Yamil Asad scored the first goal in club history. The packed place erupted and some of the group even admits they got a headache from screaming “goal” too much but declared it was well worth it.

Regarding the future of their city’s club, the Two-9 says they expect nothing but ‘greatness’ from the MLS expansion side and they’re eager to attend another match. Spectating and rallying around Atlanta United with 55,297 in attendance was an experience like no other, and they say to perform at one would be quite the honor.

It’s safe to say this won’t be the only time you’ll see Two-9 and its members sporting the red and black stripes.
