The 5-Stripes embrace unity, culture, and the City of Atlanta. Throughout Black History Month, the club honored Black Americans that have helped contribute to the community, city, country, and especially to the beautiful game of soccer.
Atlanta has become the city it is through its history and diversity, which is heavily influenced by Black culture. To continue celebrating and honoring these amazing individuals, a few of our own Black creative designers, Kaila Pettis, Britt Davis and Sam Urquhart made these special designs and cleats to give back to locals that are making waves in our Atlanta community through the beautiful game.
Sam Urquhart speaks on his inspiration for creating the pattern, “When thinking through the pattern design, it was imperative that it retained the element of the 5-Stripes that United fans have come to celebrate and showcase in their daily life. With that in mind, I felt it equally important that the design still communicate the visual vibrancy of Black culture through textiles with the support of the 5 stripes. The beauty of the Atlanta United brand from a visual standpoint is that with the thoughtful application you can truly adapt it to represent culture in a manner that feels authentic. So keeping the fans and Black culture at the heart of the process helped make for a pretty straight-forward choice in the end result. If the pattern can resonate with fans AND the black community, then as a designer, I’ve done my job.”
