Excitement was in the air at the Training Ground today as ATL UTD began small group training sessions. Players were allowed to pass the ball and shoot on goal while still maintaining distance.
"We're all excited to get ramped back up and get games in," Brooks Lennon acknowledged. "It feels great to pass to another teammate instead of one of those bounce boards. Today was a breath of fresh air, and it felt good to see some of the guys that I hadn't been able to see during the individual training."
The field was divided into two halves with six zones each. Players were required to stay in their zone, spaced at least 10 feet apart. Each group was limited to six players to maintain social distancing during the session. Goalkeepers were able to practice with live shots for the first time since the training moratorium began in March.
The league announced today that it has lifted the moratorium on full team training and that clubs can submit individual plans for approval and review. Small group training sessions are one step closer to the return of full team training and matchdays.
