Together, we stand united to fight childhood cancer.
Throughout the month of September, MLS and all its teams led initiatives to spread awareness, provide support and create memories for childhood cancer survivors and fighters.
During the month of September, all teams supported a prematch top with their Kick Childhood Cancer branding.
On the back of our KCC tops, the numbers of our players were designed by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta patients earlier this season.
2021 Owen Klemme Conquer Kids modeled the gear for us to share with our supporters along with a scarf designed by Nathan Moon. (Check out his Behind the Stripes here.)
We visited Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to support nurses and staff throughout the month. To share our appreciation for all they do for our kids in the state of Georgia, nurses were given swag and four top employees were recognized and provided special gifts.
Gold, the color used to represent child cancer awareness, was represented on the pitch on matchdays. Corner flags were gold along with the nets. Captain bands sported the KCC logo along with the matchday banner displaying a ribbon. The team balls also had hints of gold.
One of our favorite initiatives of the month for our staff and especially players is spending time with cancer survivors. This year due to COVID-19 restrictions, we used our AT&T robot to visit patients in the hospitals. The robot allows the players to work the robot and video chat.
Before our KCC match on September 15 against Cincinnati, two of our Conquer Kids Maddox and Gabi Castellanos, interviewed Brad Guzan.
When we had our Unite & Conquer Cancer match on September 18, in honor of one of our Conquer Kids that recently passed, Owen Klemme, the team sported a patch on their kits to remember him with his initials and favorite number 100.
Our 2021 scarf designer was in treatment and unable to take the coveted role of Golden Spike hitter. We invited Valeria DeSantiago, our 2019 Unite & Conquer Cancer Scarf designer to do the honor as she did not get the chance her year.
To end the perfect match and victory over D.C. United, the players joined the stage with a Conquer Kid and their family to celebrate with the fans and on the capo stand.
After the match, the Klemme family was presented with a special Golden Spike in honor of Owen.
Our last event of the month was the Owen Klemme Conquer Kids experience. We invited all of our families and kids to the Training Ground to watch practice, meet the players and enjoy a special made carnival. Activities ranged from a pie-in-the-face, bean bag toss, kissing booth with King and more. The day created a lot of smiles for staff, families and players.
Together, we stand united to Kick Childhood Cancer.
